Install HuntLease Scout on iPhone or Android (no app store) | HuntLease

Install

Two taps. No app store.

Scout runs from your browser and installs to your Home Screen like any other app: its own icon, full screen, and it opens with no signal.

Free to mark and track. Scout adds offline maps, forecasts, wind and 3D for $30 a year.

iPhone and iPad

Safari

  1. Sign in and open huntlease.co/scouting/ in Safari. It has to be Safari; Chrome on iPhone cannot install apps.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with the arrow, bottom centre).
  3. Scroll the list and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  4. Open Scout from the icon. The first time it asks for your location, allow it; when it asks for motion and orientation, allow that too, that is the compass.

Installing matters more on iPhone than anywhere else: Safari can clear a website's storage after a week without use, and an installed app is exempt. Downloaded maps are safe once the icon is on your Home Screen.

Android

Chrome

  1. Sign in and open huntlease.co/scouting/ in Chrome.
  2. Tap Install in the top bar of the map, or open Chrome's menu (three dots) and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Confirm. Open Scout from the icon or your app drawer.
  4. Allow location when asked. Chrome asks the phone to keep the app's storage on its own.

Samsung Internet and Firefox can install it too, from their own menus.

After installing

Before the first trip

  1. Open it once with signal. The app pulls your waypoints and the map sources, and remembers your plan so paid features work offline.
  2. Download an area (Scout) from More → Offline maps, and tap "Keep my maps" when the storage panel offers it.
  3. Open Conditions once so the last forecast is on the phone.
  4. Turn on location from the Locate button so the phone has granted it before you are standing in the dark.

Signing out

Sign out from More → Sign out. That clears this phone's copy of your data; it stays on the server and comes back when you sign in. If you share a phone, sign out, do not just close the app.

Put your lease on your phone.

Make a free account, open the map, and start marking. Install it from your browser; there is nothing to download from an app store.
